Christians Beware of the Prosperity Gospel

Chapter 2
You Can Be Rich Yet Poor
In Revelation we read, “Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Revelation 3:17)
This letter was written to the angel(pastor or minister) of the church of the Laodiceans(this particular city called Laodicea was located about forty miles from Ephesus-not far from Colossae). The angel (pastor) of the church of the Laodiceans spoke of himself as being rich and increased with goods and having need of nothing, but in the eyes of God he was poor.
This is a picture of many people today who see themselves as being rich or prosperous, yet in the eyes of God they are wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. The accumulation of wealth and material things doesn’t equate to true prosperity. This is a misnomer that has been preached even to the church. Bishop Hall published his first book in September 2004. The title of the book is "Christians Beware of the Prosperity Gospel." This book addresses the present-day message of many ministries that elevate prosperity above salvation. Christianity has become very materialistic and seems increasingly concerned about wealth more so than the welfare of souls. The apostle John addressed this issue when he said, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, EVEN AS THY SOUL PROSPERETH" (3 John 2). This book will enlighten your views of materialism and spiritual matters---and could even change your life forever.
